Inspire Within Devotion

Scripture

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

Ephesians 5:8-11, NIV

Encouragement

Living as children of light means walking in the Spirit and not the flesh. The verse said that “the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth”. Walking in the darkness is fruitless and should be avoided. We are to have nothing to do with fruitless deeds of darkness. Fruitless deeds are any pleasure or activity that results in sin. We must not only avoid sin but expose it to the light!

Reflection

Is there a fleshly desire that you need to avoid and expose to the light? When you confess your sins, God is faithful and just to forgive and purity you from all unrighteousness (from all the fruitless deeds of darkness). (1 John 1:9) Read the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-25. Expose sin by praying to God and asking Him to fill you with His fruit of the light (goodness, righteousness, and truth).
