Inspire Within Devotion

Scripture

“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Matthew 6:14-15, NIV

Encouragement

Jesus puts great emphasis on forgiving others, since God forgives all of us. He said to forgive others and our Father in heaven will forgive us, but if we don’t forgive then our Father will not forgive us. We are all guilty of sinning against God, just like the one who directly wrongs us. All mankind is in need of God’s forgiveness for our sins and it is not something we can deny. Forgiveness is never easy. Let us look to the Spirit for the strength to be gracious and forgive others just our Father forgives us.

Reflection

Do you feel the hurt from someone sinning against you? Forgiving the one who wrongs you can seem impossible. In your own strength, it is impossible. That is why you depend on Christ for strength. Be honest with God about forgiving. Tell God how you feel, how it felt when that person hurt you, why I don’t want to forgive to one who hurt, and give Him it ALL. Ask God to be your strength to forgive like He forgave you, and let Him soften your heart where it is needed. God understands and will be your strength.
