“On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts.”
1 Thessalonians 2:4, NIV
We should be more concerned with pleasing God, rather than pleasing the people around us, such as family members, friends, co-workers, and so forth. There are times we share the truth with people who deny it and try to persuade us from the truth. Also, times that God called us to something and the people in our life will not approve of it. Although we must always be careful to obey what God calls us to do. Many times, people try to make the gospel more palatable by teaching false doctrine to please people and be accepted by more people. Or times that people fail to obey the Lord’s leading because they are afraid of what people may think or say.
Let us always be more concerned about what God thinks, not what people think. We can’t be people-pleasers and God-pleasers at the same time; we should choose to be God-pleasers. We can’t alter what God’s Word said to make it more acceptable to wider amount of people. The truth of the gospel should never be compromised. Living in obedience to God means following Him no matter and speaking the truth of the gospel in a way appropriate to the situation. No matter if people deny the truth that we speak or tell us we are wrong and should do it another way. Let’s speak the gospel with boldness by being determined to follow God and please Him more than people!
Are you living to please people or God? Is your fear of what people will think holding you back from being obedient to God’s leading?
"We can’t be people-pleasers and God-pleasers at the same time; we should choose to be God-pleasers."
