Inspire Within Devotions

Scripture

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:15-17, NIV

Encouragement

Jesus is the image of God and the firstborn over all creation. Firstborn is used in a Jewish term, which was a Hebrew way of saying that someone was especially honored. Jesus Christ has a place of honor and supremacy over all creation because He is God. God created all things whether visible or invisible, so that means in this physical world and the spiritual world.

Thankfully, we know from this scripture that God not only is the Creator of the world; He is our Sustainer too. One, God is before all things, which means He is the One and Only God. Two, God holds all things together, so He controls and sustains all things. That means we are dependent on God. We must daily remind ourselves to trust in God and the fact that He sustains us, protects us, and cares for us.

Reflection

Do you need to trust that God holds all things together in your life? Ask God to show you some ways in your life that He was your sustainer and protector, then trust that He will continue to be your sustainer and protector in your current circumstances.

Quote

"We must daily remind ourselves to trust in God and the fact that He sustains us, protects us, and cares for us."
