Inspire Within Devotions

Scripture

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.”
James 1:22-25, NIV

Encouragement

Reading God’s Word without applying it to your life is considered meaningless. The book of James puts it straightforward: "Do what it says". It’s important to listen to what the Bible says though it is even more important to put to action what it says.

Let us not be like the man who looks in the mirror and immediately forgets what he looks like, instead let us study the Bible and obey what it says. Study the Bible intently and obey God intentionally. When you obey God’s Word and continue in obedience, you will be blessed.

Reflection

Search your heart to see if there is any part of God’s Word that you are not obeying. Is there a command in the Bible that you are not putting into action? If something came to mind as you read that, then you should pray and ask God to help you do what He says and choose to obey God’s Word.

Quote

"Study the Bible intently and obey God intentionally."
