“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV
God exchanged His righteousness for our sins. An exchange is a trade of one thing for another, typically similar in value. Though the value of God’s righteousness is indescribable worth and our sin is without any value. Our worthless sins were paid by Jesus Christ’s perfect atonement on the cross. Jesus endured the cross for our sins so that we could become the righteousness of God through our faith in Him.
God loves you so much that He provided a way out from the punishment of your sins. He imputed your sins on His Son, Jesus Christ, and through faith you can receive the righteousness of Christ. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8, NIV
"Jesus endured the cross for our sins so that we could become the righteousness of God through our faith in Him."
