Scripture

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you .”
Psalm 119:11, NIV

Encouragement

What does it mean to hide God’s Word in your heart? It can be described as storing God’s Word in your heart, which means allowing it to shape your values, morals, behaviors, and actions. By studying, meditating, and memorizing Scriptures, you are able to apply the truth to the way you live, think, and act. The understanding of God’s Word must be followed by doing what it says, so that you will be obedient to God’s commands.

Scripture memorization is a great way to know God’s Word and store it in your heart. Here are a few ways to help you memorize a verse or passage of scripture:

  • Put the scripture in a place you will see it often
  • Read the scripture repetitively
  • Recite out loud the scripture
  • Write out the scripture to test your memory
  • Listen to the scripture on an audio Bible
  • Meditate on the meaning of scripture

Reflection

What verse do you need to store within your heart? Search the Bible for a verse to memorize that will help you in your current season. Don’t know what topic to choose? Pray and ask God to guide you to an encouraging verse that will grow your faith.
