Inspire Within Devotion

Scripture

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.’ All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel—which means, “God with us.”’ ”

Matthew 1:18-23, NIV

Encouragement

Jesus Christ, God’s Son, was born of a virgin, which meant that He was fully human and fully divine. Jesus was born of women, but free from the sinful nature of that was passed on by Adam, because He is the Son of God. Jesus Christ our Messiah lived a life without any sin to be the perfect atonement for all of our sins. The fact that Jesus lived a perfect life, not only shows us how to live, but shows that He fully understands our struggles and experiences because He was “tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin”. (Hebrews 4:15-16)

In the Old testament, well before the book of Matthew was written, the prophet Isaiah spoke a sign from the Lord, “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”. (Isaiah 7:14) God’s Word never fails! This was all a part of God’s perfect plan as redemption, sending Jesus Christ our Savior to “save his people from their sins”. Praise God for providing a way out from the death of our sins and into eternal life with Christ!

Reflection

Christ understands your struggles and experiences, because He lived as a man on earth, but most importantly because He is our Messiah, the Son of God. God’s Word will always prevail!
