“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, you will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”
Matthew 6:9-13, NIV
Jesus gave this prayer as an example, not as a word-for-word prayer that we should pray.
The Lord’s prayer is a model for our prayers. Our communication with God should respect God’s sovereignty, praise God for who He is, submit to God’s will over ours, trust God to be our sustainer and provider, ask God for forgiveness, seek God to lead us out of temptation, and protect us from our enemy. Ultimately, we should lean on God for our every need and praise Him throughout it all.
May your prayers be full of reverence and adoration to God, dependence on Him and His will for your life, sincere forgiveness, and protection from the temptations of the evil one.
