Inspire Within Devotion

Scripture

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for you Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

Matthew 6:5-8, NIV

Encouragement

Jesus was showing the importance of sincere and private communication with God. The religious leaders thought they were holy by praying in public to get the attention of others. Being showy in our prayers is a self-righteous act, but honest and sincere prayer is how we ought to communicate with God. God hears all prayers, and He even knows what we need before we ask Him. We don’t need to repeat a chant, rather we just should pray from the heart. God wants us to communicate with Him.

Reflection

God wants YOU to communicate with Him. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Just be raw and honest with God, because God cares about your every need.

Quote
