“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, ‘All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.”
1 Peter 1:23-25, NIV
Peter quoted from Isaiah 40:6-8 as a reminder that we were not redeemed by perishable things, such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus. Christ is imperishable. We are mortal, but God’s Word is eternal. Only through Christ are we born again “through the living and enduring word of God”. Things of this life will one day fade away.
We can’t depend on the people around us, the career we have grown in, or the valuable possessions we own to last forever or save us. When we take our focus off of the temporary things of the world and shift it to our relationship with God and His unfailing Word, then we are focusing on what is ever-lasting and permanent. The Word of the Lord stands FOREVER!
Are you focusing on your glory or the Glory of God? Is your focus on the temporary? Take time each day to be in God’s presence and be surrounded by His Word, the ever-lasting, never failing, constant Word of God.
"We are mortal, but God’s Word is eternal."
