Inspire Within Daily Devotional

Daily Scripture

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
James 1:26, NIV

Daily Encouragement

Everyone could do a better job at effectively controlling their speech, no matter how spiritual someone thinks they are. We are humans and like to say whatever we feel. Often times we allow our emotions to control our tongue. If one does not keep a tight rein on their tongue, then their religion is useless and vain. We are all guilty of not controlling our tongue. It’s just one of the many reasons why we so desperately need Jesus.

Thank goodness the Lord does not make us work for our salvation, or else we would all be hopeless. No man can perfectly tame the tongue. Though that does not give us an excuse to not tame it. In our own strength, we could never control our tongue. The Holy Spirit can give strength to monitor and control what we say. When we feel the urge to respond in a hateful manner, He can gently remind us of God’s Love. Thank you, Lord, for being our control and strength to tame our tongue.

Daily Reflection

For more about taming the tongue, read James 3:1-12. Let the Holy Spirit be your control and strength!

Daily Quote

"In our own strength, we could never control our tongue. The Holy Spirit can give strength to monitor and control what we say."
