“Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. ‘All this I will give you,’ he said, ‘if you will bow down and worship me.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: “Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”’ Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.”
Matthew 4:8-11, NIV
In this Scripture, Jesus is being tempted by the devil, but Jesus knew what God’s Word said and used it as a weapon against the devil’s temptations. We should know God’s Word and use it as Christ did! The devil told Jesus that he would give Jesus the whole world if Jesus were to bow down to him. Jesus commanded Satan to leave and spoke the Word of God: “Worship the Lord your God and serve only him”. Today, the devil uses the same methods to tempt us, such as through power or fleeting things. Let us be like Jesus and quote the Scripture when we are tempted by the devil. For more ways that Jesus was tempted read Matthew 4:1-11.
Are you struggling with temptation? You can resist temptation as Jesus did. Turn from the devil’s temptations by quoting Scripture, like Jesus did, “Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only”. Be in God’s Word consistently, prayer continually, and praise often. For the story of Satan tempting Jesus and the beginning of Jesus’ ministry on earth, read the full chapter of Matthew 4.
