“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love, and of self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:7, NIV
Timidity is defined as the “lack of courage or confidence” in the Oxford Dictionary. According to Volcabulary.com, the word timidity used as a noun relates to the Latin word timidus, from timere, meaning “to fear.” A spirit of fear is not from God. God gave us a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline, like you see in Galatians 5:22 with the fruits of the Spirt. We must look to the Holy Spirit for these characteristics in our life.
In our own abilities, we tend to be fearful of what people might say or do, or the “what if’s” of taking a certain path. Fear holds us back from walking in God’s purpose for our life on earth. If God has called you to do something, nothing should hold you back. You are qualified because of God’s Spirit in you. God is with you every step of the way, so don’t hold back from walking in the God’s calling for you. Remember, the One who is in you is greater than he who is in the world! (1 John 4:4)
