Steps to Start a Relationship with God

God has been seeking you out, so He is delighted to have you seeking Him! God’s love for you is greater than any distance that you can run. No matter what your past is, you can have a future with God. God truly loves you and desires to have a relationship with you. Are you ready to have a personal relationship with God?

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

1 John 4:9-10

Steps to Have a Relationship with God and Become a Christian:

1. Acknowledge that You are a Sinner

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23

“As it is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.’”

Romans 3:10-12

2. Understand that Your Sins Lead to Death

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Revelations 21:8

3. Recognize that Jesus Paid the Cost for Your Penalty 

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

4. Accept the Your Free Gift of Eternal Life in Christ

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” John 3:36

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

5. Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, Your Savior

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10

“for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:13

6. Live Your Life in Christ

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

“No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.” 1 John 3:9

“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” Romans 8:5

Conclusion:

The only way to God is through Jesus Christ; believing in Christ’s sacrifice to cover the cost of your sins. God’s grace is a free gift to you. Talk to God through prayer:

• apologize and confess your sins
• ask for forgiveness and turn from your wrongdoing
• thank God for sending Jesus to lay down His life for your sins
• accept God into your life and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
